I believe in the beauty of handmade objects. I also value the qualities of each different type of material I work with. Creating by hand is a deliberate attempt at slowing down, connecting to something deeper, and taking time to appreciate the cycles of labor. I make functional pottery and hand-carved wooden utensils for everyday use and the enrichment of domestic spaces. In order to explore more abstract ideas or concepts, I also create sculptures and paintings.
There is a thread connecting each of these different approaches that adds up into a daily practice and a lifetime profession. It is a privilege to work as a craftsperson and artist in our current age of electronic saturation and hectic paces. All of my creative practices are focused on the deliberate choice to find meaning, purpose, and usefulness with my efforts.
